WellnessTrack approached me to design and develop a mobile application that would help users track their wellness goals, build healthy habits, and maintain motivation through community features.
Project Overview
The client needed a comprehensive mobile solution that would stand out in the crowded health and wellness app market. The key requirements were:
- Intuitive habit tracking with customizable goals
- Community support and accountability features
- Personalized insights based on user data
- Gamification elements to maintain user engagement
- Clean, calming design aesthetic
My Role
I led the UX/UI design process and worked closely with a team of developers to implement the app using React Native for cross-platform compatibility. My responsibilities included:
- User research and competitive analysis
- User flow mapping and information architecture
- UI design system development
- Prototype testing and iteration
- Design-to-development handoff
Design Process
Research and Discovery
I conducted interviews with potential users to understand their pain points with existing wellness apps and what would motivate them to establish consistent habits. Key findings included:
- Existing apps were either too complex or too simplified
- Users wanted gentle reminders, not pushy notifications
- Community support was valued but privacy concerns existed
- Visual progress was a strong motivator
User Experience Design
Based on research insights, I created a user experience that balanced simplicity with functionality:
- Onboarding: A streamlined questionnaire to personalize the experience
- Dashboard: At-a-glance progress view with daily focus areas
- Habit Builder: Intuitive interface for creating and tracking habits
- Community: Opt-in support groups with privacy controls
- Insights: Data visualization of progress patterns
Visual Design
The visual design used a calming color palette dominated by blues and greens with:
- Clean typography prioritizing readability
- Subtle animations to reward progress
- Accessible color contrast ratios
- Consistent iconography system
Technical Implementation
The app was built using:
- React Native for cross-platform functionality
- Firebase for backend services and authentication
- Redux for state management
- Custom animation libraries for micro-interactions
Results
Since its launch, WellnessTrack has achieved:
- 250,000+ downloads across iOS and Android
- 4.8/5 average rating on app stores
- 72% user retention rate after 30 days (industry average is 43%)
- Featured in "Apps We Love" section of the App Store
The client has secured additional funding based on the app's success and has contracted me for ongoing updates and feature expansion.
